Our story

Lulu’s House of Flowers partners with Fundación Animalista Nacahue, a nonprofit animal rescue group that was founded 9 years ago in Nayarit Mexico. It is led by their President Linda Ugarte, and 10 other women who volunteer their time. They provide low-cost sterilization campaigns that are held once a month and provide shelter to dogs at their Nacahue adoption center (CAN ). They shelter and rehabilitate dogs who are found abandoned and hurt on the streets. The average number of dogs they shelter and care for at any given time is between 45-50, they have another 30-40 dogs that are held in temporary homes. With little to no budget and certainly a lack of resources, this small grassroots organization, solely made up of volunteers has managed to sterilize more than 7,500 cats and dogs! They have hosted and adopted more than 500 cats and dogs within the metropolitan city.

A Female-Led Organization

What does Nacahue mean? (Na-Ka-whe)

Nacahue means Goddess of the earth.  A perfect name for a group that is led by mostly women

Nacahue originates from the Wixaritari Language. This is the language spoken by an indigenous group of people from Mexico, particularly from Nayarit, Jalisco, Durango, and Zacatecas
